The stock has been steadily dropping for a reason.  Sorry Tom, I don't expect anything mind blowing.  Spending is up (because they are pratically robbing us) and attendance is down.  4th quarter may finally show some better turnstile clicks when they get to factor in these insane Fright Fest crowds.

It should be interesting to hear what they say though since I don't think weather really played a factor in this quarter except for maybe Texas.

yeah I really can't understand why attendance would be down.........I mean I know about that terrible SFKK accident but I really wouldn't think it would affect attendance anywhere except that particular park.

I have a whole bunch of shares that I bought at $6.00 in hopes of a great summer season.  Judging by operations at our own park, I honestly saw a tenfold improvement this season.......so why didn't the attendance follow suit?  Maybe it takes a while for positive word of mouth to actually affect these things, but from what I saw people were just happier in general while at the park this year.

People are suckers for major ride additions. The attendance should pick up next season (weather permitting.) The park is run much better than when El Toro debuted and it looks much better than when Superman arrived. It's just missing all of those shows it had when Kingda Ka opened and a dozen+ flat rides it had when Nitro soared onto the scene. Half a dozen flat rides will get them 3... .5 million.

In my opinion, the problem is two-fold.  Dan is right, the GP are suckers for major ride additions.  Unfortunately, the years of Kingda Ka and El Toro, our two most recent major additions, the operations were horrible which resulted in bad word of mouth.

The spending is way up because a new customer has arrived.  Shapiros plan must be working because they keep adding all of these new kid lands (which I obviously support lol) which results in a huge bump in spending.  And this is because the type of person bringing the family tends to spend more when they are there.   I know when I go with a friend, I almost never buy anything.  But if our family of 4 goes to the park, we almost always eat one meal and almost always buy something else.

They need to lure back the customer base they drove away with horrible operations, broken rides, dirty bathrooms and poor customer service while keeping the new guests they have gained.

That is why I'm extremely opitmistic for next season.  Between the new ride, although sorta cheesy, the positive word of mouth from what I consider to be the best operations we've seen in 5+ years, and you have the chance for a stellar season.  This is why I'm so glad they decided to still include the parade because now they have recaptured the audience that came out to see Wiggles World and with The Dark Knight, they will hopefully bring back those that got so pissed off when Kingda Ka was broken for 50% of the season :).

My feelings if they do take out more flats for next season then adding the dark knight coaster wont help.

The people who they want in the park the most will have nothing to do if they keep it up. Some of the people they want in the aprk doesnt like coasters so if you take all the flats out then you are left with nothing.

Next season I think will be either really good , or even worse.

Yep.  One of the best coaster parks in the country, Six Flags Over Georgia, has probably the fewest flats of any major US theme park, with Kings Island being a close second.  Coasters alone do not a park make.

Along the same lines, I seriously think that replacing some of the live entertainment with VIDEOs from Dick Clark Productions next year is one of the worst, dumbest, stupidest things that Messrs Shapiro and Snyder have done to date.  Paramount Parks tried that, with a HORRID MOSTLY video show (with some live action) called The Magic of The Movies.  It was truly awful.  To put it mildly.  People don't pay big money to go to a theme park to see a video.

/\ Unless its something like Mickeys Philharmagic :D

Majortom, I think the mentality of late with the flat rides is to simply improve ride uptime (hence the demise of Chiller).  The rides they are removing are either horribly unreliable, unable to obtain parts or both.

Don't quote me on this but I have a feeling a few more will disappear next year.  However, I do believe they will be replacing them with equivalent new models.  These type of things aren't going to be in press releases though.  So don't get too worried about future removals.  I'm not aware of the ride count dropping any lower than it is already and will likely be slow climbing instead.

The kiddie rides are all fixed up and the major coasters are there.  We need good live entertainment (parade is coming), a more thrilling family coaster like Space Mountain or The Mummy (The Dark Knight is coming) and finally, some intermediate flats for the entire family wich in 2-5 years, I think we'll be seeing.

This report hopefully doesn't prevent Shapiro from finishing his tasks he set out to do.  I really do believe he is on the right track.

Should be interesting to see this, I think attendance figures probably stayed around the same but they made more money which essentially is what you want in a company. They did bring in food sponsors that people know and love which, If Shapiro was right, made more money on food than in previous years. Operations were smooth as glass which, as Wade was touching on, would not cause any anger.

Also as Wade said, I think its key to maintain and make sure the current rides you have run properly and don't suffer from severe intervals of downtime, before you can ultimately expand. I would love to see flats come in but what is the purpose if I cant ride them and/or my favorite coasters?

I also think that something should be done with the Batman Arena...Maybe incorporate with a new show geared towards the Dark Knight?

Im content as long as nobody touches the Turtles or the Tigers, I love them animals, especially the tigers cause they remind me of my cats, haha.

Flats and coasters can coexsist like they do at other parks. A flat isn't anymore mechanicaly complicated than Kingda Ka. I am happy that Six Flags/Great Adventure is spending more wisely than the past 8 years but I would like them to realize that Premier removed more flat rides than they added. Coasters have great capacity but flat rides (dark rides and shows) offer a better variety for all demographics.

I am pissed that Jolly Roger and Tango are still hear considering all of the worth-while flats that left. The only people I know who like these rides are either small kids who have 15 flats of their own to ride or enthusiasts who like to marathon coasters and can't handle a good flat afterwards.

Yeah, and I could feel that clunk clunk clunk in my back all night long :)

Seriously though, a ride like Jolly Roger... what COULD go wrong with it lol.  Rides like that are a no brainer to keep since they have very few issues.
