PATCO Back To Normal After Train Fire(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA PATCO Speedline passengers bound for Philadelphia were forced to evacuate the train while crossing the Ben Franklin Bridge Monday after the conductor detected smoke."It was an urban adventure," said passenger Beth Enger of Collingswood, N.J.Authorities said just after 6 a.m. a conductor aboard a westbound PATCO train detected smoke in the front car of a three car train while en route to Philadelphia and brought the train to an emergency stop on the Ben Franklin Bridge over the Delaware River. "We got on the train and there was burning smell and we got off on the catwalk on the bridge," said Enger. The 35 passengers were then evacuated to a catwalk area on the bridge high above the Delaware River as a precautionary measure."You could see the water under you, and it's a little chilly up there and then you see the fire trucks and all the equipment com out and you get a little bit worried," said Vincent Cieslik of Gloucester Township, N.J.Emergency response personnel from the Delaware River Port Authority closed two westbound lanes of the bridge during the incident. The lane closures brought traffic to a halt for many commuters heading into the city. The lanes were reopened after 7 a.m. and the train continued on its way to 8th and Market Streets in Philadelphia. No injuries were reported and while an investigation is underway, PATCO said it appears it could have been a failure in the motor.
