Ride Rankings
« on: August 05, 2007, 02:02:19 AM »
So Dan (darkridedan) got me thinking about my top ten lists (as usual) and I realized I never tried to figure out a top ten steel list. If you find this post pointless, don't respond, but feel free to add your personal top ten lists to the thread!
Also, if this thread has already been started in the past, feel free to join the 2 together.

Steel
1. Superman Ride of Steel (SFNE) - For obvious reasons.
2. Phantom's Revenge (Kennywood)
3. Xcelerator (Knott's Berry Farm
4. Mr. Freeze (SFoT)
5. Kumba (BGE)
6. Space Mountain (Disney World)
7. Maverick (CP)
8. Shockwave (SFoT)
9. Steel Eel (Sea World San Antonio)
10. Storm Runner (Hershey Park)

Wood
1. The Voyage (Holiday World)
2. Hades (Mt Olympus)
3. Boulder Dash (Lake Compounce)
4. Avalanche (Timber Falls Adventure Park)
5. El Toro (SFGAdv)
6. J2/Tsunami
7. Cyclone (Astroland)
8. Phoenix (Knoebels)
9. Leap The Dips (Lakemont Park)

10 is a long tie for me.
It can be The Boss, Viper at SFGAm, Cornball Express, Raven, Legend, Wildcat at Hershey...

Yeah, that sucks about Chiller...I hate to see it like that. Hey, so we should get a group picture or something ok. I'll call you later!

Since I haven't rode Hades or Avalanche I'd replace it with Thunder Head.  I'm surprised to see El Toro at #5 and Phantom's at #2.

Ill go think about mine and come back to you.  What about Montu ?

Montu is the bomb.... but I haven't ridden it enough to really place in a top 10. I think I've only ridden it 3 or 4 times as opposed to the 25+ on Kumba each visit.

Montu is by far the best B&M invert for me. I think about mine, Phantom's Revenge at number two?

So let's keep this thread alive and change it up a bit... 10 Worst Wood/Steel you've ridden. This should be a little tougher...

Steel
(I don't really have an order for these, so I'll just list the ones I really dislike)
Looping Star - Beech Bend
Looping Star - Jolly Roger Pier
Vortex - King's Island
Whirlwind - Knoebels
Toboggan - Trimper's Rides Ocean City
Dive to Atlantis - Mt. Olympus
Mind Eraser(s)/T2 - SFA/SFNE/SFKK
High Roller - Stratosphere Tower
Superman Ultimate Flight(s) - SFGAdv/SFGAm
Python - Busch Gardens Africa

Wood
Rattler - SFFT
Twisted Twins - SFKK
Son of Beast - King's Island
Beast - King's Island
Colossus - SFMM
Psyclone - SFMM
Mean Streak - Cedar Point
Raging Wold Bobs (pre-Cedar Fair) - Geauga Lake

I know that's not 10, but it's all I can think of that I didn't really like.

Steel
--any Vekoma hang n' bang coaster
--any Zamperla flying coaster
--Hydra

Wood
--Hercules
--Williams Grove Cyclone
--Myrtle Beach Hurricane

It's hard to think of my worst operating wooden coaster.  It seems all the ones I don't like end up closing down(guess that's a good thing).   Out of operating coasters, I'd say Villian would be a contender for the bottom.

For me, worst coasters are all about the pain they cause.  I'd much rather ride a boring coaster than one that inflicts pain.

I was basing my judgement off of my frist rides on the Hurricane at Myrtle Beach opeing year, that being the reason it wasn't in my "worst list". I rode it once closing year, but was suffering from bad sun burn, so I'm not really going to consider that ride when using this list, it just wouldn't be a fair judgement.

I'm surprised you picked Hydra, did that ride actually hurt you? I felt a couple of spots that were a little shaky, but never thought it to be a bad ride. To each their own.

I happen to like the Volare coasters by the way :)

And Dan, Dragon Coaster? I'm surprised you put that in there considering all the history behind the ride and how much you love that park.

Oh and I decided what my #10 is, well it's actually like # 6 or 7, but I forgot about it when making the list. Cyclops at Mt Olympus. THat ride is just nutty.

Hydra is rough for a B&M, but I mainly listed that for the boring factor.

^I loved Hydra for its originality compared to other floorlesses which all seem to be slight alterations to Kumba.

My top 5 worst: (1 being the worst)
1. Viper (GAdv)
2. Mind Eraser (SFA/SFNE)
3. Hercules (Dorney)
4. Flashback (SFNE)
5. Hypersonic: XLC

And Dan, Dragon Coaster? I'm surprised you put that in there considering all the history behind the ride and how much you love that park.

I have fun on the Dragon Coaster. It's not a painful coaster by any means. The Morgan trains make the ride drag. Psyclone suffered from bad trains from B&M. Dragon Coaster's grade has allot of flat track like Raging Wolf Bobs and Hercules. It is maintained well and has good theming. Eh, Wade? I've been fortunate to have friends who take me on allot of good wooden coasters. :-[ This one just ranks in the bottom 10 out of 69. There are only a few coasters -the Dinn Disasterpieces- that I would never ride again. Dorney just made it one easier.

I've liked Hydra. It's bipolar. It has a great layout with lots of surprises for me and I've had my head banged around through the course on a few of my rides.

Sue, my most-painful, unre-rideable coasters are:

Wood
Rebel Yell frontwards. It gave me a headache and ruined the rest of my 1st visit.
Villain (Cedar Fair era) It was my number 1 on my visit to SFWoA.
Hurler in 2003 (KD) Wow. I never had my ribs hurt so much
Beast (KI) until my ride on the Beast.

Steel
boomerangs (KBF, LC, GL, WW, GE, SFNE, HP)
Mantis
Vortex (KI)
Chiller w/shoulder harnesses
Dominator (GL)
Iron Wolf (SFGAm)
Mind Eraser (SFA)/ Thunderhawk (GL)
Joker's Jinx w/ shoulder harnesses

It seems the GP doesn't like Hydra either.  Most times there's no lines for anything at Dorney, but even when coasters like Talon and Steel Force have lines, Hydra never does.

I love the Beast
Hercules wasn't to bad - I loved the Drop 157 feet and that turn around was crazy.
I didn't ride it its last few years but I rode it many times on Media day and at the ACE Convention and it kicked but (drop and turn).
it was a one trick pony but that pony kicked butt

and even with the trims The Beast is still awesome and no coaster drop was anything like Hercules drop
yes they are rough but Wooden coasters get pissed off when they are not taken care of   :D
