Rollercoaster record breaker still on a roll

A thrillseeker yesterday smashed the Guinness World Record for the longest rollercoaster marathon.
Richard Rodriguez overtook the previous total of nine days and 12 hours at 12.01am.

The 48-year-old broke the record on the Pepsi Max Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Not content with this feat, the American is still riding the rollercoaster to maximise his total.

Rodriguez now owns 12 roller coaster world records. He set his first one at New York's famous Coney Island at age 19.

He said: "It feels amazing to be the world record holder once again, but I'm not just going to give up now ? I want to stay on for as long as possible and make my record a solid one. The ride crews and all the visitors have been a great help and have inspired me to stay positive during this successful record attempt so I'd like to thank them all."

Mr Rodriguez has to eat, drink and sleep on rollercoasters as he takes on the ultimate endurance test.

He was going head to head with two challengers at Freizeitland Gieselwind park in Germany, but they dropped out after 36 hours due to medical reasons.

Mr Rodriguez held the record for nearly 30 years until German Frank Rossler beat it last year.

I would say he is drinking like those all in one kind of shakes that way he reduces waste and can just use a catheter.

Yeah, I would have to agree. Why pick a boomerang to marathon when there are so many better rides to enjoy. I myself would choose Raven, Phoenix, Racer, Jack Rabbit, and El Toro to even consider 12 days.

Theres a bunch of rules and stuff.

Like for every hour, you have to take a 5 minute break or something. Don't quote me on that...I forget what the actual rules are.

This guy has to sleep on the coaster...I doubt I'd be able to sleep on El Toro, so that choice would be out the window, let alone Kingda Ka. It would have to be something like Lightning Racer for me.

It really is just an amazing feat, though.

All the way to Nepal and back in a tidy 3 minutes...Expedition Everest

Its just a really relaxing ride. I can imagine actually falling asleep after riding for a few hours, as long as no one bothered me :)

Yeah, that sucks about Chiller...I hate to see it like that. Hey, so we should get a group picture or something ok. I'll call you later!
