Yet another major Disney ride rehab
« on: January 08, 2009, 02:17:31 PM »
I really don't get this.  They FINALLY get going with the Space Mountain refurb that has been rumored for years and will probably take 2 years to complete - and NOW they also decide to take the TTA out of commision for the year as well ???.  This sucks.  Tomorrowland might as well close because aside from Buzz, these were the only two rides worth riding (I don't include MILF as it's a "show")

Yes, the TTA is closed from April through the remainder of 2009.  The only ride you could always count on being open without a line.  Oh well.  Sucks more for Rob I guess  8)

The only thing I can think of is taking advantage of the slumping economy?  Maybe they plan to get things fixed up while the crowds are low this year...

Nevermind, I'm a moron and answered my own question in my post LOL

I'd guess that the Space Mountain refurb is so involved with the track and roof replacement that the TTA can't remain open since it passes through the building.

DUH!! lol

Yes. Go to orlandosentinal.com and the article should be in the business section. I'd copy the link for ya but I'm on my phone. Basically it gives the date and mentions the track being replaced along with the ceiling to the building and the queue being redone. Screamscape continues to say that we should expect onboard audio as well but the sentinal did not confirm anything like that.

MILF, hehe. If that alone doesn't take me back, who cares what will.

Space is gonna be awesome after this work is done.  I'm sure the rumors I heard weren't solid, but it's Disney and it's Space Mountain.  I know they'll put in good work.

Oh I have no issue with Space.  I'm actually more worked up over not having a people mover lol

Altough something tells me Space is going to feel more like a Vekoma instead of a crazy seashore coaster in the dark but my old back certainly won't mind.

What kind of refurb are they doing exactly? Like an X2 revamp?

I wish they could leave one side alone (preferably the left side) and only redo the other side. I know I'm going to miss the classic feel of the ride as the new version is sure to be glass smooth like Disneyland's. :-/

As long as they keep my two favorite zones the same, I'm fine with the layout.  Every Space Veteran knows that Zone 10 has Gold Balls and Zone 11 goes "Weeee!" down the drop. LOL.

Hehe. I think it'll be like X2 and Bizarro. I think that they should try and remake it quicker so that they can get more crowds in.

What there doing is replacing the track keeping the same layout, adding new cars, effects and sound. And finally, giving it a new loading area and que. Also, the mountain will be lowered a few feet. For TTA, they're keeping it closed so nothhing is spoiled, and maybe giving the tour a fresh start.

Ummm, no new track in Florida. No onboard sound either. FL isn't getting the same level of work as CA which is sadly typical. TTA is delayed because SM is delayed and since TTA rides right through it, they can't open it yet. New lighting, sound system, a few new props and a new spiel is all that changed on the TTA ;).

I should probably add that the TTA opens in about 2 weeks while the mountain is closed until late Nov or early Dec. Not that anyone on here is impacted by that or anything :D.

California's is much better then what we are getting. The only issue is I would think we get new audio on SM, but they have to do what they have to do!

FL = budget hacking. Although it appears some serious change may be on the way :).

That explains why it looked so different to me when I was down there for Spring Break. That and Disney's going to open TTA and spoil the remodeled SM. That's kind of odd

I doubt anything will be spoiled. All they have to do is put up some temporary partition walls between the TTA and the view of Space's innards. Not hard at all.

And Wade, I'm impacted! I can't wait to get down there and see what they did to my favorite steel coaster! Fingers crossed they don't mess it up.

I'm guessing "Zone 11" is the final blissful drop?

You got it Matt!  That was my favorite zone on the ride, as well as to push rockets down when resetting the ride. O0
