I didn't see a thread on this, if I missed it I apologize.

Knoebels has broken ground on their new ride, the classic Flying Turns.

Does Knoebels usually do press releases???

I just find it interesting the difference in the construction pictures for this and for something like El Toro or Tatsu. Much lower tech.

I was actually laughing a little at their construction pics... a bunch of dudes with a cement truck, filling in one footer. Knoebels is such a different place than any other park. I don't know if they do huge press releases, but I'm sure they will have something...

Yeah, that sucks about Chiller...I hate to see it like that. Hey, so we should get a group picture or something ok. I'll call you later!

Im not sure if they do or not..

but That consturction scene reminds me of what Tsunami looked like when it firs started being built.  The only differance being.. knoebels actually has thier family work on the coasters.  Thats tradition right there.

At least one of us has wanted to ride one of these babies ever since college.

I will be there opening day.  With bells on.

This looks pretty cool. I've always wanted to ride this type of coaster. Maybe when I get my license in a few years, I will take a trip up there. :D

It's Knoebels.

I wouldn't necessarily bet it won't be open on opening day.

Dick Knoebel can do amazing things.

Seen it before and no doubt we will see it again...

Right but, the last i heard about this.. they still had a few problems with designing the nessicary trains.  Not only that, but this looks to be a pretty major task at hand onsidering one hasent been build in over 50 years.

It will be very interesting to see what happens here.

I was hoping that Dick and Co would buy one or both of the Schwarzkopfs from SFAW, but this flying turns coaster will be great for the park. Its going to fit in perfectly with the vintage atmosphere that the park already has.

With it breaking ground, I'm guessing PCT worked out the trains issue.  Can anyone find an article backing that up?

Amen my brother!

The flying turns will be a great addition to Knoebels. About as classic and old school as you can get at a park that lives off tradition and history. Thumbs up!

i was hoping they would resurrect the jack rabbit.  Sadly i don't think its fixable, nor does anyone care about it.

I don't think it is that no one cares about it, it is just that it can't be saved.  The structure is in bad shape, all the footers are rotted out.  If the park had the money, it would be gone by this point.

I asked alot of the head employees and whatnot, they all told me he said if anyone were to come in and volunteer to knock it down and take the scraps.. as long as they had the insurance, that he would pay them for it.

If PTC is doing the Trains for The Flying Turns then I'm sure he will have a Big presentation at this years Eastcoaster (ACE Event)  in Allentown this Saturday Feb 4th .
He always show us all the New trains and the coasters that they will be on.
Maybe Dick Knobel will be there this year  ?
With El Toro
Flying Turns
and Maybe some other Surprises  This is the best place to live (mid-Atlantic) for riding coasters .
See ya at Eastcoaster
FYI
Jack Rabbit was my first coaster at age 6 and still ride by it almost evryday

Some good stuff from Coastin' Steve:

Quote
From talking on the phone to a friend who works for Knoebels,   the
first bent was erected this past Fri  8-)
They are still deciding on how thick the Cypress layer is going to
be,   either 3/4 or 1 inch
The Cypress layer will be tongue and groove and they're considdering
having the T&G off center in the boards thickness so that more wear to
the rolling layer can happen before replacement will be needed.
While nothing is being promissed or official they want to have it
running by the end of the season    8-)    8-)    8-)    8-)
