Wow, complaining about a day at Six Flags Great America? SFGAm is the Disneyland of the midwest. The only thing that could possibly go wrong with a day at the park is bad operations and he doesn't make a mention of that.
Great America is a beautiful park filled with the major attractions of a coaster park. The usual price of a coaster park admission is $50. In addition, SFGAm has the minor flat and spin rides of an amusement park. The usual price of an amusement park admission is $30. It also has a full-scale in-park water park and the usual admission to a stand alone water park is $35. If he went to all three seperate parks to balance his one-day visit to SFGAm, he would have paid $375 for admission, $230 with "Buy One Get One" free discounts. He saved from $140 to $285.
Yes, parking is a rip off. It always has been.
Again I was frugal and my girls split their lunch and dinner since the portions were huge -- still the bill for lunch and dinner was just over $50!!
That's not bad for the type of food you may have purchased. I'm about to spend $25 for myself at Outback. The park's food is higher quality than McDonalds.
Then you have the games -- of course we have to try to win the oversized stuffed animal that will end up in a garage sale 12-18 months from now. I was lucky, I only spent $20 to get to decent sized animals (BTW, go with the guess your weight or age game -- it is the easiest to win).
Teach your kids to value a dollar like you did when you purchased your deep-discount tickets. My parents took me to Six Flags Great Adventure almost every year from the time I was five until I was fourteen. We never once played a game. Going with the entire family was fun enough...and we always packed our lunch and dinner.
Of course, dad is a sucker, and I end up buying the animated drawings of each of the girls. The pricing is $15 for just a head in black and white, $20 for head and body and $25 with color. Now who is going to buy just a head -- I mean really...a floating head? Throw in the mats to keep them safe on the way home and we are at $76.
That's YOUR fault, not the amusement industry. It is expensive. Imagine the line if they were only $5? And did your daughters need this to have a good time?
Lastly, there are the incidentals. You have to buy some ice cream, a couple of bottled waters and a churros or two -- call it another $20.
Do you have any balls, or are you another weak-kneed liberal "journalist?"
I can see if he made a trip to SFGAdv and he was angry at the removal of half the rides, but SFGAm? They have a collection of rides twice the size of Great Adventure when their Hurricane Harbor is open and the price of admission is still cheaper. It's a better deal than ANY Cedar Fair, Busch or Disney park. This man should learn to shop around to make some comparisions before he shows off. His little bit of MSNBC style reporting was quite comical though!
