2007 Steel Coaster Poll results
« on: March 08, 2008, 09:28:26 PM »
http://www.ushsho.com/detailedsteelrollercoasterpollresults2007.htm

#9 Nitro
#50 Medusa
#61 Kingda Ka
#116 Superman Ultimate Flight
#131 Batman Chiller
#142 Robin Chiller
#263 Great American Scream Machine
#264 Skull Mountain
#311 Runaway Train

Yay for Nitro!  However, I think it should've been even higher since it's WAY better than Goliath at SFOG which came in at #7.

Medusa is ranked higher then Ka? Odd in my opinion but then again, I guess others feel that opposite.

I still don't see why Kingda Ka is hated by everyone  ?
I think it must be the wait inline breakdowns and over the shoulder restraints

I would ERT on Ka anyday over many other coasters voted higher.

I much prefer Kingda Ka to Top Thrill Dragster, but only in the front seats of the cars.  But, what do I know?  I have Maverick as my favorite steel coaster...but again, only in THE very front seat of that one...

Mainly enthusiast vote and most hate ka. Why? I think it has to do more with it being a direct jab at cedar point, the park it is located in, the break-downs and then the overall elements.  But honestly, I don't think the gp gives a crap about these polls so it isn't worth getting worked up over lol.

However, gadv fans must not have hit the polls the way they did for toro because batman chiller, nitro and medusa all deserved higher rankings.

I may say more once I can actually review things on my pc to see how many votes there were as well as how close each place came.

If there weren't the usual enthusiast bias against the nation's largest and best seasonal park (hint, it ain't on Lake Erie), then I sincerely doubt The Voyage would be the top rated wood, either....I still don't understand those who think it is such a superior coaster to El Toro...

Then again, I much, much prefer Maverick to Millennium Force or Superman: Ride Of Steel at SFNE...

It's all a matter of tastes, I suppose.

Call me quirky!

I'm guilty of voting in the wood poll, but not the steel poll.  It would just be too time consuming to rank all the steel coaster.

My reason for not liking KK is the restraints which is why I also think Maverick and Storm Runner were voted much higher than they should be.  If the restraints were changed, I'd have a much higher opinion of all of them.

If I had voted, I'd put the GA coasters in this order:

Nitro
Batman Chiller
Robin Chiller
Skull Mountain
Batman: The Ride
Great American Scream Machine
Runaway Train
Kingda Ka
Medusa
Superman Ultimate Flight

Eagle's Fortress looked pretty insane for a suspended coaster. Rob posted a video or search you tube.

I feel good,  I've ridden at least 12 of the top 20.  Busch Gardens should also be happy with 5 coasters.  I still don't get Apollo's ? Maybe I'm not riding with the right people?   No..I can't go in March,  so don't post.

Didn't Superman - Ride of St SF New England not run for much of last season??  That isn't worth 1st. (But it is a great ride)

SROS was ok when I rode it. Maybe I didn't ride it enough or in the right seat but it just seemed on par with Nitro.

Clint... we're going to have to go up there this summer together.

I've always wanted to ride it with someone that thinks it's just "meh" so I can slap them in the face :)

Me, too.  Coasters that many, many others adore that I just don't get:

Apollo's Chariot
Voyage
Twister at Knoebel's
Hades

and

most of all

Shivering Timbers

From day one, I never understood why everyone was so excited by that thing...

Coasters I adore that others don't seem to revere so highly:

Rolling Thunder (Hi, Rich and Sue!)
The Georgia Cyclone
Psyclone at Six Flags Magic Mountain (now gone, sigh)

Coasters that I agree with just about everyone else are greatly overrated by all too many people:

Ninja at Six Flags Over Georgia
Son of Beast
Raging Bull

I've never been to SFNE before, but I am going to try and make it up there this summer. Do they have season pass holders days like Great Adventure does because I heard the lines are ridiculously long and the park is always packed? I'd like to go on a day that won't be too bad. Any ideas?

Shivering Timbers was my number 1 for years. I rode it when it was about a week old and the airtime was amazing. It always wowed me for years until my last visit in 2006 when I caught it on an "off" day and understood how others could possibly think it's not all that.

El Toro is way too smooth and inconsistent with exciting moments. Yes it's fast, tall, has some killer airtime moments, but has just as many disappointing moments. Voyage is non-stop aggression--that's my (and seemingly most others') idea of a great woodie.

Millennium Force at number 4? Not surprised, but WAY WAY WAY too high for the world's tallest and fastest kiddie coaster IMO. It *might* make my top 50, but there are so many better steel coasters in the US alone and even at Cedar Point! Even with its terrible OTSR's, Maverick blows it away. Even Dragster is better.

Eagle's Fortress looks absolutely amazing! I wanted to go to Korea to ride it before the poll; now I can't stop thinking about it.

Last summer, I totally *got* Apollo's Chariot. Definitely better than Nitro (which I love). But last weekend on Passholder Preview Day, it was slow and had virtually no airtime. What a range it has. I would put Millennium Force above last Sunday's performance. Big Bad Wold rocked my world as usual though (once it finally opened). When running well, I think Nitro, Apollo and Goliath Over Georgia are all about on par with each other.

Haven't ridden SROS SFNE since 2001, but it was the first steel coaster I thought was better than my then number 1, Shivering Timbers. Hoping it (SROS) still kicks ass the way I remember it.
