Morey's New Wood Coaster
« on: July 26, 2007, 09:44:12 AM »
Info from NJ ACE REP.

New Wood Coaster in the Works for Morey's Piers (Enthusiasts Offer Suggestions at Focus Group)
During Morey's Piers' "Coastin by the Ocean" event, Morey's invited attendees to participate in a special focus group at the Wildwood Convention Center to get feedback on a new wooden roller coaster that is in the planning stages for a future install. Angel Daniels of Morey's Piers reports that they were very pleased with the feedback received and are taking the suggestions very seriously. Here is a brief bullet point synopsis of those plans. Keep a look out for the first issue of our newsletter for much more information.
-          The proposed coaster will be a classic wood coaster that will span between two amusement piers- Morey's Surfside Pier and the former Hunt's Pier
-          Morey's has reached out to GCI and Premier for proposals and designs that will be reviewed by Morey's before an official decision is made
-          The coaster will potentially be painted white like the traditional woodies of yesteryear
-          Tracer lights were a popular suggestion among coaster enthusiasts
-          Many key elements that should be incorporated into the design were discussed like the need for airtime, tunnels, types of restraints and an optimum station design
-          On-board music was a proposal by Morey's but it was suggested that music may not work on a wood coaster due to noise and train design especially if the designer is GCI
-          Traditional metal wheels were preferred over polyurethane found on El Toro , etc.
-          Suggested names were Riptide and Pier Pressure
As far as we know, there is no set timetable for the opening of this coaster although we would not expect it to happen before 2009. Of course, stay tuned for any news on this exciting new coaster as it develops.

Sounds awesome. But if the restraints aren't Millennium Flyers...Imma freak.

I'm just so amazed that no one I mean no  has posted one photo
of the Coaster designs and model from the Meeting in the convention center. >:(

100 people attended this event  not all attended the meeting but come on
with all the digital cameras  and no pics

This will be a very unique design and one of a kind Pier to Pier Woodie so I'm very excited about this coaster

I will be in Wildwood tonight  8) and I will seek out Mr Morey and do my own investigations.
I'm staying only 1 block from Moreys Pier and if anyone want to Ride the Skyscaper Friday night  let me know give me a call

Also Morey's is willing to give a building on Hunt's Pier to serve as the location for the National Rollercoaster Museum, and possibly find a way to get the SBNO Golden Nugget integrated into the whole thing

thanks

^Maybe Morey's is asking for no one to release the images/didn't allow cameras.

The layout is probably gonna be pretty damn basic, alot of airtime hills if it's going pier to pier. Basically the opposite of Great White. (Which btw needs to be retracked)

found this on another  site

"A reader visiting Morey?s Piers a week or two ago actually ran into Morey?s President and VP taking several people from Gravity Group for a look around the Adventure Pier near Great White. They were pointing to areas near Great White and then pointing down to Mariner?s Landing pier, so we can only assume these are the two piers they are looking at for the new coaster."

maybe the people at the ACE event mentioned Gravity Group as a designer
this is looking good to me

but Adventure Pier and Mariners landing is about a half mile apart from each other so i doubt it would be here
unless Moreys are looking to Best Holiday World  ?

take a look at this pic I was there just 2 days ago and it?s a very long distance
add about 300 feet to this photo behind where I took the pic

What are tracer lights?

Tracer lights are blinking lights along the coasters hand rails to enhance the "thrill" and ride experience...

This new coaster looks good to me so far.

Yeah, that sucks about Chiller...I hate to see it like that. Hey, so we should get a group picture or something ok. I'll call you later!

Good luck melting the steel. :)

Tracer lights are good on twister coasters personally. If its more of an out and back coaster, I would say go with lights placed along the bottom of the coaster to illuminate the supports kind of like they do on GASM.

If the tracer lights are set up to go against the train, it makes it feel a lot faster apparantly. The Ozark Wildcat has these, and from my friends reports, they say it works wonders for an already awesome ride.

But Ozark is a twister type of coaster so it works out for the better. I would not like it if Toro had tracer lights on it. Hershey's are perfect since all their woodies are compact.

I'm going to disagree with all my fellow ACER's on this.

Name: Jersey Devil
Wheels: Polyurethane
Tracer lights: Doesn't matter to me.
Paint it white: Not a good idea.
Manufacturer: GCI or GG. Please don't call Premier.

I'm going to agree with Silverbullet, I think some of those guys were doing acid "Under the Boardwalk".
Are you ready to send those commies running back to their mommies?
