Dorney & Voodoo for 2008
« on: February 28, 2007, 11:35:19 AM »
 Dorney Zoning Request

Let's recap: Geauga boards have had rumors that point to Steel Venom having the final nail in its coffin being placed by Dorney. Then Cedar Fair confirms that Steel Venom will be moved to another park. A seemingly random rumor appears on Coasterbuzz that Dorney has filed for a new power supply for 2008. And now this...

South Whitehall Township has the agenda for it's next planning commission meeting online as of today. Cedar Fair has a request to "modify a prior amendment to the ... zoning ordinance." It seems they want to move two small areas that were rezoned for higher rides some years ago. Not far mind you, one will move 30 feet and the other 105 feet.

Something I did not know was online, and I'm grateful to the source who provided me with it, is this map of the park's current zoning:

I put a circle around the two "squares" that the parks wants to move the above mentioned amounts. You can position yourself on this image using Hamilton Blvd. on the bottom, Lincoln Ave. going up on the left-ish side, and Dorney Park road which is running right into the red circle.

Now, why would they want to move these two squares that have greater height limits? What would require just two small squares for high parts?

I think the writing is on the wall folks.

Nice. I love the fact that this ride will be less than 2 hours from me (if this is in fact true)

Yeah, that sucks about Chiller...I hate to see it like that. Hey, so we should get a group picture or something ok. I'll call you later!

;D WOW. I'll finally get to ride an Impulse coaster. Wait a minute, they have to get approval from the TWP first. do you think they keep the name Steel Venom or will it get some other cheesy CF name instead?

Is that where the skyscraper used to be? Thats a good spot for it... I always thought putting one behind Laser would be a good spot too.

That is where the Skyscraper used to be.  I think they'll have to make more room than that though to fit the length of the ride plus a queue line.

It really will be a great addition to the park.

--first Impulse coaster in the Northeast
--first launch coaster for Dorney
--first coaster at Dorney to go backwards

The GP will love this ride!

It's great that the people on these forums support Dorney getting Steel Venom.  On most other forums, everyone's busy crying that it's a bad move and are afraid that it will replace the rumored wooden coaster.

Personally, I think it's a great move.  I think the GP will be wowed by it as evidenced by the board member's reactions.  Most people in this area(except for us) have never seen anything like this coaster.

I agree about Dorney's coaster selection being very average now, but the addition of SV will definitely step things up.

Ah.  Steel Venom and X-Flight, two of my three favorite rides at Geauga Lake, now at Kings Island and soon Dorney Park, respectively.  I get to Dorney more than Geauga anywho...so...

YAY!

Give me SV over a forceless GCI any day! I got 2 tracks at Hershey for that.

Yes I think this is a great addition to the park.
The only one in the area.
Great for the area.
These coasters are Fun  front seat for me
I wonder how much it is costing to move and install , like half the cost of the ride itself ?

I still mis Hercules drop

SilverBullet, that is exactly what I say.  I'm just not a big fan of GCI coasters.  Plus, like you said, there's already Lightning Racer and Wildcat at Hershey.  There's no other impulse coasters in the area.

Tom, Rich would love you.  He was Hercules biggest fan.  I have no idea why since I wouldn't even ride it the last couple of years.  :-)

The only impulse I've ever been on is Wicked Twister.  Aside from the insane wait time for its opening year, I loved it.  And that was back before it had the added structure support so it wasn't traveling all the way up the spikes.  From what I understand, Steel Venom was even better because of that holding brake so I can't wait :)

Wildcat isn't really like the new GCI's at all thank god. More CCI'ish. That thing could pummel you into the ground.

I need to get on an impulse!

I'm looking forward to it!  I didn't get to Dorney last summer, so I'll definately have to stop by after SV arrives.

I read somewhere that Dorney Park was getting Geauga Lake's Steel Venom. Does anyone know if this is true or if it is just a rumor?
